The Royal couple were given a great reception on their arrival on July 28. The ‘crenellations’ (battlements) were actually located at the front of the Old Town Hall in the Diamond with the ‘Black Man’ - now in Brooke Park - visible in the foreground. It was later destroyed by fire.
