One in four pregnancies end in a miscarriage. The Patient and Client Council has been working with a group of women in Northern Ireland to help them share their views and experiences of support services, following miscarriage.

Group member, Susan Evans from Coleraine, has experience of miscarriage and also works with women in her community who have lost babies.

Susan says: “Being part of the Patient and Client Council group has given me opportunities to share my experiences with the Health Service, and I hope that by sharing my views, services will improve for other women and their families. “ Having a miscarriage can affect people in different ways. Some will come to terms with it in a matter of weeks whereas others can feel the traumatic effects for a long time and may benefit from some help and support along the way. Talking to others in similar circumstances may be a real comfort for some.”

With guidance from the group, and the Miscarriage Association, the Patient and Client Council is hosting an event for women, their partners and Health and Social Care decision makers, to learn about existing support organisations in Northern Ireland and to highlight gaps in services.

The event is being held in the Templeton Hotel on Tuesday, October 20 from 10.30am.
