‘The Sat Nav Gospel’: a new book from Coleraine minister

THE Rev Dr David Clarke, is soon to retire as minister of Terrace Row Presbyterian Church, a position he has held for over 31 years.

The longstanding Times columnist has been persuaded to put together a collection of his sermons and addresses, some of them delivered during the year he served as Moderator of the General Assembly in 1996.

The collection is known as ‘The Sat Nav Gospel’ - the title of one of the addresses - and includes sermons preached after the Dunblane school massacre, before the referendum on the Good Friday Agreement, and on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

Praise for the book has come from various sources.

Rev. Philip McConnell, Chaplain to The Royal Hospital School, Ipswich, says: “This collection of sermons, marking the formal end of his parish ministry, gives to his congregations, the wider Church and the community at large, a second enjoyment. It is a rich resource for gospel preachers everywhere.”

The Very Rev. Dr. John Dunlop, former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland added: “Here are sermons from a preacher who has the heart of a pastor who knows at first hand the joys and sorrows and complexities of the human condition.

There is nothing shallow here. This is not a book that ought to be read quickly, so it can be savoured and reflected upon at leisure.

Copies of ‘The Sat Nav Gospel’, costing £6, will be available for sale in the ‘Times ‘ office at 5 Stone Row from Monday, December 5. Dr. Clarke will be devoting all proceeds to his congregation’s Building Fund.
