The commissioning panel consisted of 55% disabled and deaf artists. Cian Smyth, London 2012 Creative Programmer for Northern Ireland, Arts Council of Northern Ireland said:

“Maurice Orr’s The Screaming Silence of the Wind was the first artistic commission made in Northern Ireland for the London 2012 Paralympic Games. His determination to produce work on a scale he has never achieved before, its Icelandic connection inspiring an international scope for his work at home, and his motivation to deliver a visual art experience for the visually impaired makes the completed exhibition a quietly powerful project as it tours galleries around the country, introducing people of all abilities to the visual arts in a unique way. I applaud Ballymoney Borough Council for bringing Maurice’s Paralympic work to its communities and know it will inspire all who see it.”

Commenting on the nature of the exhibition Maurice Orr said: “The coast, fish leather and oil painting are central to this exhibition. It is one for the senses. It has been a process that has pushed my abilities to the best I could achieve and on a scale like never before. I hope it brings forward an understanding of visual art through many senses, and a deeper understanding of disability access for all audiences.”

To run alongside this exhibition there will be a talk by the artist on Thursday 9th February 2012 at 7pm in Ballymoney Town Hall.
