The Trust employs more temp staff

THE Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT) is more reliant on temporary staff than other health authorities in Northern Ireland with 762.44 employed at October 2010.

The Trust has also employed more temporary staff for longer than any other authority with 101.46 staff in post for more than five years and 24.14 in post for more than eight years.

By comparison the Northern Trust - the second most reliant on temporary staff - employed 633.18 at October 2010; 57.08 were in post for more than five years and 14.37 were in post for more than eight years.

The figures exclude staff employed on “as and when” contracts, rotational doctors, and student trainees.

They include significant numbers of staff who are funded on a limited time basis by outside organisations such as research charities, and in Social Care such as SureStart.

Figures also include staff holding permanent contracts seconded to posts on a temporary basis.

Health Minister Michael McGimpsey outlined the information in response to an Assembly Question.
