Theatres stage better financial performance

NEWTOWNABBEY Borough Council has vowed to continue working to reduce the operational costs associated with running Theatre at The Mill after the venue made a loss of more than £475,000 during the past financial year.

The local authority has faced criticism in recent years over the amount of money it is spending on operating two theatres - Theatre at The Mill, Mossley Mill and The Courtyard Theatre, Ballyearl - less than a mile apart.

And while the latest figures reveal significant improvements in the financial performances of both venues year on year, council officials have stressed that they will aim to reduce the costs to ratepayers even further by increasing income and imposing tight controls on expenditure.
