Eight-year-old Andi Scott has been crying ever since Toffee the pony was taken and has pleaded with whoever is responsible to return the much-loved pet.

It is believed thieves led the pony out of its field at the Dagger Road, near the Maze ,on Sunday evening at around 6.10pm.

The family live right beside the field but did not notice the animal being stolen.

They have put up a substantial reward for the return of the pony as it is “Andi’s wee world” according to mum Beverley.

“Toffee is a 13.2-hands-high chestnut mare,” said Beverley. “We have had her for five years now.

“Andi suffers from partial hearing in both ears and when she is with Toffee she is in her own wee world.

“She feels safe with the pony and is utterly distraught that someone has taken it.

“Andi has grown up with this pony. It belonged to my other daughter Phoebe before that but she outgrew it.

“We then gave the pony to Andi who spends as much time as she can with Toffee.

“Being with the pony helps Andi a lot deal with her hearing difficulties. It is as if the pony and her communicate with each other and that keeps Andi happy.”

The theft has been reported to the police and CCTV recordings have been monitored which Beverley says identifies the thieves. This is the second time the family have suffered the loss of a pony; just last year another one of their ponies died with Equine colic.

“I can’t believe anyone would go into a field and steal our wee pony,” said Beverly. “They are heartless, but I am hoping she will be returned. We have started an online campaign to find Toffee and are hopeful that we will see our beloved pony again soon.

“Andi hasn’t stopped crying since Sunday. It is not fair that anyone can do this.

“We lost another pony with colic last year and that was bad enough but this is terrible!” Beverley is offering a substantial reward for information leading to the recovery of Toffee and she can be contacted via this media outlet.
