There were never such devoted sisters

AS the song goes...’Sisters, There were never such devoted sisters...’

It’s certainly true for Annie Molloy and Violet Coleman, who each week sit side-by-side for their midday dinner at Caw Luncheon Club.

Annie is the eldest at a very spritely 96, while Violet is am equally vital 92.

Both are daughters of Martha Jane (Lockheart) and Samuel Moore, and like their siblings were born in the family home at Altnagelvin. The family of 10 included sister Martha, and brothers David, Samuel, Robert, William, Edward, James and Johnny.

The sisters are a popular pair at the luncheon club, and are very close to each other, trading friendly jibes and keeping the mirth going at the dining table.

Violet, who is from Kilfennan, teases her sister, calling her “very bossy”.

“She is worth watching, is that one,” she says with a glint in her eye.

“She is a lovely sister, and I love hearing her auld chat. She tells tall tales to anyone who will listen,” she laughs, adding: “We are the only two of the family left, so we have no choice, we have to put up with each other!”

For her own part, Annie is devoted to Violet: “I love my sister. She is so easy to get on with and I love that we go out together and that we come here for our dinner. I love coming here for my dinner anyway, but I love being out with her.”
