Third major drugs bust in town

POLICE in Larne have recovered 60 cannabis plants with an estimated street value of £30,000 from a residential property on the Old Glenarm Road.

Officers from the Larne Neighbourhood Policing Team made the discovery on Thursday (August 2) during what was described as “proactive policing operation”. A number of items were also taken away for further forensic examination.

The drugs haul was the third such incident in recent months. Last month, police seized £40,000 worth of cannabis plants from a house on Old Glenarm Road. And in May, a cannabis factory was uncovered at a premises on Circular Road, with officers recovering a quantity of suspected cannabis valued at £31,500.

Larne Inspector Noel Rogan said: “In total, over £100,000 worth of suspected cannabis has been taken off the streets since May this year, which highlights the determination of police to tackle the issue of illegal drugs. Already one person has appeared before the counts and police will strive to apprehend anyone involved in this criminal act.

“Officers from the local Neighbourhood team have demonstrated the excellent working relationship with the local community to recover these items,” Insp Rogan concluded.
