This week's Paper Pulpit has been written by Pastor Billy Jones, Assistant Pastor at Ballee Baptist ChurchGOAL!!!

WITH under two weeks to go until the start of the festival of football known as the World Cup in South Africa, my attention was drawn recently to a book about the life story of the Brazilian footballer Kaka, entitled: 'Towards the Goal.'

Kaka along with the team captain Lucio, defender Felipe Melo, forward Luis Fabiano and assistant team coach Jorginho are all professing Christians, who not only play together on the pitch to score goals and win matches but pray together before and after their matches, that they may achieve their main goal which is to glorify their Lord on and off the field of play.

What is the Goal of your life? To remain healthy, to accumulate wealth, to become famous or simply to find happiness? In Matthew chapter 19 v 16-22 we find one young man who seemed to have it all. He was a Successful Man referred to as a rich ruler and a religious person, yet his riches and religiosity did not bring him peace of heart or mind. It also became apparent that he was a Seeking Man as he came running to Jesus with a burning question (verse 16) “What good thing shall I do, that I may have Eternal life?”

Jesus did not make reference to any denomination, creed or additional charitable act rather he pointed out that he lacked one thing in his life. He was rich so it was not finance that he lacked, he was religious so it was not fervency he lacked but he was not ready for Heaven, what this man lacked was a personal saving faith in Jesus, hearing the Lord’s advice, verse 22, informs us that he went away a Sorrowful Man as he was not prepared to make Jesus Lord and Saviour of his life. He had missed his Goal and was lost forever. I hope that you don’t miss your spiritual goal by rejecting Jesus rather trust in him and you can be a Saved Man or woman today.

This World Cup watch out for Kaka, Lucio and co in the Brazilian team and remember that their goal isn’t just to win the World Cup but rather to win the World for Christ.

1 Corinthians 15 v 58: “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the Victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
