Thomas's t-shirt is special

MOSSIDE man, Thomas McCallum, doesn't often wear a t-shirt, but a gift from members of Buishmills Youth Fellowship to mark his 102nd birthday recently, will always be special.

Appropriately named ‘Champion’, the t-shirt was signed by the Youth Fellowship members and presented to him when he reached another special milestone in a fulfilling life.

Typical of the man, his birthday wish was that any gifts from family and friends should be in cash so that he could donate the money to charity.

And this week, Thomas was delighted to be able to give 300 to the Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

Past Presbyterian Moderator, Rev. David Clarke, along with Rev. Philip Watson were amongst the callers who also included close friend, Councillor Archie Graham, Councillor Madeline Black and the chair of Moyle Council, Cara McShane who presented a gift.

A letter of congratulation was sent by the President of Ireland, Mary McAleese.

Mr. McCallum was born on January 30, 1908 and has a sister, Jean (95) who lives in the Portrush area. He was the sixth eldest of 11 children.
