Thompson raises ‘boy racer’ concerns

He said: “I have received complaints about nuisance drivers in several areas of The Glens. I was contacted on Saturday morning (March 10) by a resident of Tavnahan Terrace and on Monday morning (March 12) by residents of High Street in Cushendall.

“It would appear that young men are coming to these areas at night to perform donuts and other stunts with their cars and they are ruining the lives of the people who live there. They are waking sleeping children and frightening elderly residents as well as causing a great deal of annoyance with the noise they make.

“It is particularly worrying that some of the skid marks from these cars are on the footpath on High Street. It shows that these cars are not under control and it does not bear thinking about what could have happened if a member of the public had been using the footpath at the time.

“The problem of nuisance drivers has been ongoing right across The Glens for a number of years and it is time The PSNI took stiffer action against those who are taking part in this sort of behavior.

“Anyone caught driving in this dangerous fashion should lose their license. I will be contacting the PSNI to investigate ways in which these crimes could be stopped. I would also appeal to those responsible to stop what they are doing and think about the effect their actions are having on local people in the area. If nuisance drivers are allowed to continue what they are doing then it is only a matter of time until someone is seriously injured or even killed.”
