Three arrests in Craigavon for driving under influence of drugs or alcohol

Three drivers have been arrested within the last 24 hours in the Craigavon area for driving with either alcohol or drugs in their system.

The first driver was involved in a collision shortly after 4pm yesterday (Sunday).

Police said he was arrested and charged with drink driving and several other offences. “This was during Sunday shopping hours when lots of families are over at Rushmere Christmas shopping,” said the PSNI.

The second detection was later in the evening and the driver was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and possession of drugs.

“Not just alcohol that we are on the look out for,” said the PSNI spokesperson.

The third driver was also involved in a collision in the early hours of this morning. He was arrested and charged with drink driving.

“The fact that two out of three of these drivers have had collisions clearly evidences how driving under the influence can seriously impair your driving ability and judgement,” said a PSNI spokesperson.

“Thankfully no other road users got caught up in either collision.

“In the run up to Christmas we will be out and about plenty on the roads and stopping motorists.

“You can be sure that anyone detected driving under the influence of drink or drugs will be arrested, charged to court and disqualified. At the very least.

“We want everyone to enjoy the Christmas period - but safely!

“Never ever drink drive. Nor with drugs.”
