Three cheers for team from St. Josephs Primary in Crumlin

Eight schools from Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough came together to take part in the Primary School Cheerleading Championship.

Claire Mullan, Everybody Active 2020 Sport NI, National Lottery funded Dance Coach organised the Primary School Cheerleading Championship, in conjunction with the UK Cheerleading Association.

Claire has dedicated time over the last few months visiting the schools across the Borough choreographing and coaching pupils’ cheerleading routines which were showcased in the final at the Antrim Forum.

The Mayor, Councillor John Scott, said, “Congratulations go to all the schools who participated and especially to the overall winners, St Joseph’s Primary School Crumlin.

“This has been a fabulous event, with excellent teamwork and superb routine’s, A massive well done to the children, their teachers and Claire Mullan”.

The UKCA hosted the ninth Northern Ireland National Cheerleading Championships in the Antrim Forum on Saturday, March 25 where cheerleaders were ‘wowing’ the crowds from grass root level squads to elite, representing Northern Ireland, England, Ireland and Scotland.

Sport Northern Ireland Interim Chair Brian Delaney said, that they had been investing thousands of pounds at local councils.

“Sport NI is delighted to be investing over £6m of National Lottery funding in the 11 District Councils across Northern Ireland,” said Brian.

“By working together over the next four years on the delivery of Strand 1 of Every Body Active 2020 we will begin to see real changes in sport and physical activity participation – especially amongst women and girls, people with a disability and those in areas of greatest social need.

“We look forward to seeing the impact of our investment for people in our communities, helping them to enjoy, engage and excel in sport and leading to a population which is more active more often.”

(UKCA), is a National Organisation for the Sport of Cheerleading that offers extensive training courses for coaches, cheerleaders, judges, officials, young leaders and volunteers in the disciplines of cheerleading, stunting, tumbling, street cheer, cheer dance and pom dance.

UKCA is responsible for organising cheerleading competitions and events at some of the most prestigious and inspiring sporting venues throughout the country.
