Three convicted of benefit fraud

Three people were convicted at Craigavon Magistrates’ court on Tuesday for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.

Lisa Lyness (32) of Ennis Green, Lurgan claimed Income Support totalling £1,582 while failing to declare employment. She was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £62.

Martin Bell (51) of Liscorran Court, Lurgan claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £21,580 while failing to declare capital. He was given a two month prison sentence suspended for 18 months and ordered to pay court costs of £74.

Mr Bell has since repaid in full any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Miguel Alegre (25) of Hanover Street, 
Portadown claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £6,024 while failing to declare employment. He was given a three month prison sentence suspended for 18 months and ordered to pay court costs of £34.
