Three in prison over warrants

THREE people in the Ballymoney area have been taken to jail following a planned police operation in the Borough last Tuesday to clear warrants issued by the courts for various offences.

Another 17 people who were called on by police paid the fines on the spot and escaped a custodial term.

Inspector David Anderson said that additional officers had been brought in to help and he revealed that further operations were being planned for the near future.

“There’s a number of warrants on the books and they will have to be cleared. If people pay their fines they won’t be gettting an early morning call from the police.

“It is not in our interests to take anyone to jail at this or any other time of the year,” the Inspector said.
