Three lifted onsuspicion of sellingcounterfeit goods

Two males, aged 30 and 32 and a female aged 42 were arrested in Londonderry on Wednesday, June 15, on suspicion of offences related to the sale of counterfeit clothing, music and films contrary to the Trade Marks Act and Copyright Designs and Patents Act.

During the operation, Detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime Branch, assisted by local police, searched three houses and a mobile shop in the City side area of Londonderry during which they seized a quantity of counterfeit clothing, music, films and documentation as well as approximately £2,500 cash.

The 32 year old male has since been interviewed and released on bail pending completion of further enquiries.

The other two arrested individuals were also interviewed at Strand Road Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) station.

The PSNI said selling fake goods at knock-off prices is by no means a victimless crime.

Detective Inspector Tom McClure, from Reactive and Organised Crime Branch said: “The counterfeit market damages our local economy and diverts much needed finance away from small and local businesses.

“There are also instances where the counterfeit market is used to fund organised crime and terrorism.

“We would ask the public to support us as we work to address this criminality and would encourage anyone who has information to contact us on 101.”
