Three men arrested after raid on newly opened Newmills shop

Three men remain in police custody following a raid at a Newmills shop which opened its doors for the first time, less than one week ago.

Detectives in Dungannon arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of robbery, while two men, aged 32 and 40, have also been held on suspicion of attempted hijacking, and robbery.

The arrests followed an incident in the Brackaville Road area around 3.35pm yesterday afternoon (Wednesday, August 6) when it was reported that two men, one of whom was allegedly armed with a hammer and a crowbar, entered a shop and threatened staff before making off with a sum of money.

The two men joined a third man in a black coloured Toyota MR2 car and made off from the area.

No staff members were injured.

The 28-year-old man was located and arrested in the Dungannon Road area of Cookstown a short time later, while the other men were arrested in the Annahavil Road area of Dungannon following a report of two men attempting to hijack a passing car.

All three men are in custody in Dungannon and police are appealing for anyone who witnessed any of these incidents or who may have noticed a black Toyota MR2 VRM G657 TBD being driven in the Dungannon area since Friday, August 1 to contact CID in Dungannon on the non-emergency number 101.
