Three new suspects in £10,000 robbery

One man - Jason Kennedy (26), of Drumtarsey Road, Coleraine - is already charged with robbery and possession of a firearm with intent.

He is in continuing custody and as his case was being adjourned to December, a prosecutor said three new suspects have to be added to the prosecution file.

She said two of the suspects have already been interviewed.

A previous court heard a gun was placed on the back of a cash-in-transit van security guard’s leg during an armed robbery in which £10,000 was stolen in Coleraine on Saturday July 18.

A police officer said he believed Mr Kennedy was the get-away driver.

The officer said he believed he could connect the accused to the charges and said around 2pm on the Saturday staff at B&M in the Riverside Retail Park in Coleraine said £10,000 had been picked up and the security guard was then robbed by two males, one with a handgun and the other with a crowbar.

The officer said the gun was placed on the back of the guard’s leg and he was ordered to hand over a case and the two males then ran off towards wasteland and escaped through a hole in a fence.

He said a car in the area was believed to be Mr Kennedy’s and after a male with a bag got into it, it drove off towards Castleroe.

Mr Kennedy was arrested at his home and the court heard the vehicle was bought the day before.

The officer told the previous court hearing the £10,000 and the firearm had not been recovered at that stage.

The defence solicitor said nothing was found during a search of Mr Kennedy’s home.
