Threw brick at PSNI

A TEENAGER who admitted throwing a brick at police during last year's Apprentice Boys' Parade in Londonderry has been jailed for one month.

Kelvin Alexander McGinley (19), whose address was given in court papers as c/o Hydebank Wood Young Offenders’ Centre, pleaded guilty to riotous behaviour on August 8 last year.

Londonderry Magistrate’s Court heard that around 50 people were gathered in the Fahan Street area of the city and McGinley was identified by police as one of those involved in riotous behaviour.

He was spotted with a large brick in his hand which he then threw at a police on the City Walls. McGinley was arrested and admitted it was him captured on CCTV footage throwing the stone.

Defence solicitor Keith Kyle told the court McGinley "doesn't bear any particular hostility towards police or people with opposing views."

He said that, while the incident was "not pleasant", there was no injury or damage caused and the teen "expresses remorse."
