Threw number of punches

A local man has been fined £150 and bound over to keep the peace after being convicted of disorderly behaviour.

Dean McAlinden (20), from Hillhead Drive, Banbridge, appeared before the local Magistrates Court last Thursday.

He came to the attention of police at 2.40am on New Years Day at Bridge Street, where he was seen throwing a number of punches at a group of males.

Solicitor Mr Enda Lavery said his unemployed client had been out socialising in town on the evening in question and had too much to drink.

"There was no contact made with any parties and it was more of flailing of arms. He stayed out too late and apologises to the court for the trouble."

McAlinden was bound over for two years in the sum of 400 and prohibited from engaging in aggressive or hostile conduct in public places.
