Threw pint glass at staff member

A woman who threw a pint glass at a staff member in sheltered accommodation was put on probation for six months last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

Monica Thompson (38), Castle Lane, Lurgan, at a previous court had admitted common assault and damaging a hi-fi and pictures belonging to Praxis Care on May 1 last year.

Sentencing had been adjourned so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.

The court heard that police were tasked to the sheltered accommodation where the defendant had thrown a pint glass at a staff member. He had managed to get behind a door before the glass smashed on the door.

It was also alleged that Thompson damaged a hi-fi and took pictures from the wall and threw them down. The amount of the damage came to just under £150.

Thompson claimed that the staff member had provoked her because he wouldn’t listen to her. She said she threw the glass at the door and not at him.

A solicitor representing the defendant said it was a very difficult case and she had been before the court in the past for similar matters.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said he thought a short probation order was appropriate if the defendant agreed.

Thompson indicated she would consent and the judge imposed a six month order.
