Threw punch at partner

Blake Finan (29), of Riverdale House, Ballybog Road, Dunmurry admitted the offences which occurred on July 24.

He also admitted a charge of resisting police, which also occurred on that date.

The court heard that police were called to a domestic incident at 7.30pm on that date, they spoke to the injured party who was the defendant’s partner.

She alleged that Finan had assaulted her. It was added that the defendant had gotten upset because his partner had been talking to an ex-partner and Finan had thrown a punch at her, hitting her on the arm.

During arrest the defendant became aggressive and leg restraints had to be used, he also head butted the cell van and continued to shout at police.

Prosecution said that Finan spat at one of the police officers during the incident.

A solicitor told Lisburn Magistrates’ Court that Finan had taken medication that was not prescribed to him on the evening and mixed it with alcohol.

Defence said that this strong pain killer was for a problem with his back and mixed with alcohol had left him “disorientated.”

The injured party had made a full statement. “He is a fisherman by trade and he always has work,” added the solicitor.

Sentencing him to four months in prison, District Judge Mark Hamill said: “I wonder if he would like it if someone spat in his face.”
