Thumbs up from our wee Oliver after life changing US operation

It’s the picture we’ve all been waiting to see - a trade mark thumbs up from wee Oliver Dickey after his operation in America.

And just a week after the operation to help the Millburn Primary School pupil walk, Oliver is out of hospital and enjoying time with his his little brother Max and his family.

Throughout Oliver’s care in the St Louis hopsital, relieved mum Charlene has been keeping family and friends back home updated on Oliver’s progress through social media.

Charlene even found time to update followers as Oliver was in surgery last Tuesday.

On Sunday night, a picture of the wee man sitting in a comfy chair, back at the hotel, showed Oliver happily playing on his ipad.

Speaking to The Times yesterday, Charlene said: “It’s going good so far. Oliver is getting better every day.

“He’s very anxious but not in too much pain now. The first day he got out of bed was scary for him, but we’ve got a brave wee boy and he’s been doing great since. He’s had a couple of great in-patient physio sessions including a ride on the trike both Saturday and Sunday!

He got home on Sunday afternoon, and he’s happy to be back with Max.

He will have out patient physio for the next 3 weeks. “

Charlene went on to thank everyone who had been in contact with the family via facebook: “There are hundreds of messages, “ she joked. “We just can’t keep up with them.”

*The Coleraine Times would like to clarify that the Dickey family are staying in a hotel in Louis, and not a rented house as we printed in Tuesday’s edition.
