Thumbs up given for work on new lights to get underway

The green light was given for the traffic lights at the junction of the Antrim Road and the Vaddegan estate.

Glengormley DUP member Tommy Kirkham welcomed the scheme.

He said: “We would like at this point to thank the Department of the Environment traffic management section for their time and consideration over this matter and we look forward to working with them in the future.

The Democratic Unionist Party representative added: “We would ask residents to please put up with the inconvenience while this work is being carried out.”

Meanwhile that same week, the region was hit by a spell of wintry weather.

Freezing temperatures caused black ice and slippery roads.

As a result of this cold snap, there were a number of road traffic collisions caused.

A number of people had to receive medical attention as a result of these incidents.

One of the collisions took place at Houston’s Corner on the Larne Line.

There were two separate collisions on the same day on the Manse Road.
