Tidal wall to be constructed at Whitehouse

Planning Service has recommended approval of an application by Newtownabbey Borough Council for the erection of a tidal wall defence at Gideon’s Green/Whitehouse Lagoon.

The work is to be carried out to protect the foreshore from further tidal corrosion.

At their meeting on August 5, local councillors agreed to appoint Earney Contracts Ltd to construct the tidal wall and fencing at the site at a cost of almost £32,000.

Members were reminded that all works associated with the sea defences must be completed by September 1 due to the lagoon being an important winter feeding ground for birds.
