‘Tilly Tots’ – which takes its name from the Centre - replaces the popular Sure Start programme which catered for infants. The new playgroup will initially be held every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. but if numbers grow as early signs indicate then a further day will be added.

The idea for ‘Tilly Tots’ came from a group of mothers who recognised the value of Sure Start and felt they needed to do something to replace it.

After discussions with Armoy Community Centre management, a facility was granted and the response has been very encouraging for officials.

Leanne Sandison, the chairperson of the new group, said she was more than delighted with the turn out on the first day.

“We’ve had a great response from mothers locally and beyond.

“Sure Start had a catchment area ; we don’t and we’ll happily welcome mums and children from wherever,” Leanne said.

The aim is to provide a meeting point so that children from 0 to play school age can mix together and also to be able to allow mothers to socialise in comfortable surroundings.

Tea, coffee and snacks are available.

Leanne added: “Sure Start ran from 2001 and was a great facility, but we hope that ours will be equally as good.”

Also, the group are seeking donations for running costs but expenses will be kept to a minimum.

The aim is to provide an outlet for mums and babies to mingle and ‘Tilly Tots’ appears to fit the bill.
