The audience at the village’s community centre event on Friday heard an insight into Tim’s forthcoming programme, which will look at the Ulster Scots as well as the comic’s own personal journey as someone with Ulster Scots background.

Festival director Dr David Hume said: “Tim McGarry was fantastic and brought a fresh approach to the matter of Ulster Scots. It was very generous of him to share his time with us at the Broadisland Gathering and the discussion was lively and highly enjoyable for all those present.

“As Burns noted, it is important to see ourselves as others see us, and this was a good humoured evening which highlighted that Ulster Scots is for everyone to enjoy and appreciate.

“There was a wide ranging discussion ranging from Give my Head Peace to the Haas initiative and lots in between,” he added.

The ‘Evening With...’ event has been bringing the Gathering to an end for the last three years with previous guests being Lord Bannside and Baroness Paisley and Senator Dr Martin McAleese.
