TinyLife fundraiser

TINYLIFE, Northern Ireland's premature baby charity will be bunny hopping around Lurgan Park on Tuesday, April 6 from midday.

The Easter Bunny will lead the children around the lake in search of an egg trail.

When all the eggs are collected the children will use them for an egg and spoon race.

Over 1,500 babies are born premature each year and 900 babies spend time in a neonatal intensive care unit each year.

Some 80 per cent of babies who are born alive but die in the first 28 days of life are born prematurely. On average there are two stillbirths every week.

Lisa and Damien McKernan's daughter, Kara-Leigh, was born 13 weeks early and doctors gave the child only a 45 per cent chance of survival.

The Grattan Street family paid tribute to Tinylife and the staff at Craigavon area hospital for their help during what was a very traumatic time for them.

Lisa said: "TinyLife was great in helping us, they were able to show us what to expect and offer support.

"They helped us understand that we were not alone and it wasn't just something that happened to us."

TinyLife helps fund medical research into the causes of premature birth, stillbirth and miscarriage, provide information to health professionals and ensure families of premature babies receive the emotional and practical support they need.

Families are asked to raise a minimum of 10 each for Tuesday's egg hunt.

All funds raised will support premature and sick babies in Northern Ireland.
