Titanic Cycle for charity

Annaclone man, Adrian Horsman, will make the trip between May 16 and 19 on what he’s calling a “Titanic” challenge.

A small group of people will begin the trek from where the Titanic was launched in Belfast and ending up at Cobh in Co Cork, known as Queenstown in 1912 - the Titanic’s last port of call.

The 300-mile journey will see cyclists travel through Banbridge on day one.

“It’s twenty years since I set off on my bike from Belfast for a ten month cycle-ride through Africa to Cape Town,” said Adrian. “That was when my eyes were opened to some of the realities of poverty. I was also a lot younger and fitter then, but the need of the communities we work with is still there.

“Christian Aid works with the world’s poorest communities, regardless of faith or nationality, tackling poverty and the causes of poverty.”

Adrian is seeking more people to help him with his challenge either through cycling, taking part in a table quiz on May 4 at Banbridge Masonic Hall or through a simple donation.

““I am looking for anyone else who would like to take part in the challenge,” he said. “You can even go for just one of the four days. But if you’re not up for that, or can’t make it to the table quiz, then please consider sponsoring me through justgiving.com/adrianhorsman.”

All proceeds of the quiz and raffle will go to Christian Aid. Admission is £5 per head and people are asked to be there for an 8pm start.

Adrian thanked those who have supported him so far.

“I would also like to thank the Banbridge Masonic Hall committee for their generosity in letting me use their hall,” he said.
