a FORMER Larne clergyman who is now chaplain in the Titanic quarter of Belfast is to be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Tuesday Group.

Rev Chris Bennett, a former curate of St Cedma’s Parish Church, will speak on “Working together in the Titanic Quarter” - particularly topical in this centenary year of the Titanic disaster.

The new Titanic Centre opens in April 2012 and Rev Bennett will talk about the preparations being made to make this centre welcoming for all.

He will also talk about his work in the centre, which includes a chaplaincy centre, a community hub and a cafe.

At his appointment as Church of Ireland chaplain to the Titanic Quarter in 2009, Rev Bennet said: “To avoid being identified with one community or another, this shared space will be something radically different to the familiar church buildings of all traditions - a boat moored in the heart of the Titanic Quarter,

“Each denomination will be invited to provide a chaplain, just as they currently provide chaplains to work in shared spaces in universities and hospitals across Northern Ireland.”

The Tuesday Group meeting - being held in Larne Methodist Church hall on February 21 - will commence at 10.30am with refreshments and the talk will begin at 11am.

There is a small charge to cover costs. All are welcome to attend.
