TK TO STAY?Retailer in discussion with landlord weeks before scheduled closing

THERE is speculation this week that TK Maxx, which had announced it was to close at Bow Street Mall early next month, may not be going after all.

In February the company, which specialises in selling designer clothes at discount prices, announced that the store was closing at the beginning of June.

However, this week a spokesperson for the company said they were in discussions with the landlord.

They added: “We cannot comment further on any action at this stage.”

A statement from TK Maxx earlier this year said it was ‘with regret’ they had made their decision to close what was understood to be one of their most successful outlets.

“At TK Maxx, we are always assessing and reviewing property strategies and the decision to close this store is in line with this thinking” they said at the time.

It is understood they could not reach agreement on the renewal of their lease at the unit.

This week’s move comes after other speculation that TK Maxx could open at Sprucefield in the old MFI store.
