Tobermore prepares to host ‘Twelfth’ demonstration

AROUND 60 Orange lodges and bands from South Londonderry will converge on Tobermore tomorrow (Thursday) to celebrate the 322nd anniversary of the Battle of the Boyne.

Brethren are expected to be watched by hundreds of their supporters who will line the processional route.

It is seven years since Tobermore District LOL No 11 last hosted the demonstration and they have gone to great lengths to ensure the route is colourfully decorated and suitable facilities provided for those taking part and attending ‘the big day.’

All districts’ are asked to assemble at the Golf Driving Range on the Maghera Road for 11am, moving off at 11.30am to parade to the demonstration ‘field’ on the Draperstown Road.

The main parade will be led by Garvagh District No 4 followed by Castledawson District No 1, Tamlaght O’Crilly District No 9, Kilrea District No 5, Magherafelt District No 3, Ballyronan District No 7, Moneymore District No 10 and Tobermore District No 11.

The route to the ‘field’ is from Maghera Road along Main Street to the Draperstown Road.

There will parking at a cost of £5 in the ‘field’ - including a limited number for those with Invalid badges. Parking is also available at Maghera and Magherafelt roads.

Platform proceedings will get underway at 2pm sharp and will take the form of a religious service.

Brethren will be welcomed by Bro David Johnston, Worshipful District Master (WDM), Tobermore District. The proceedings will be chaired by Bro Hugh Stewart, County Grand Master.

Deputy Grand Chaplain County Londonderry, Bro Rev Gareth Stewart, will give the address. The guest speaker is Bro Drew Nelson, Secretary Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland.

The resolutions will be proposed by Bro William Hyndman, WDM Tamlaght O’Crilly District; Bro Adrian McQuillan, WDM Garvagh District, and Bro Winston Parke, WDM Magherafelt District.

Seconding the resolutions are Bro Fred Cahoon, WDM Moneymore District; Bro Alistair Kyle, WDM Kilrea District, and Bro Gary Galway, WDM Ballyronan District.

A vote of thanks will be proposed by Bro Trevor Kyle, Past County Grand Master, seconded by Bro Robert Cochrane, WDM Castledawson District.

Following the platform proceedings the lodges and bands will leave the ‘field’ led by Tobermore District No 11, followed by Garvagh Distict, Kilrea District, Tamlaght O’Crilly District, Castledawson District.

The return route is along the Draperstown Road, Main Street, Maghera Road to the buses for Garvagh, Kilrea, Tamlaght O’Crilly and Castledawson Districts. Ballyronan, Moneymore and Magherafelt Districts will get buses on the Desertmartin Road.

Tobermore District will be holding a street collection on the day in aid of District funds. No other collection will be permitted.
