Tobermore receives ‘Ulster in Bloom’ best kept village prize

Local councils, businesses, community groups, bus and rail stations were presented with special awards for their efforts to improve the appearance of their areas using beautiful floral and plant displays.

Speaking at the awards presentation in the Beech Hill Country House Hotel in Derry, Simon Corrigan, Translink Western Area Manager, said: “Ulster in Bloom is a celebration of the wonderful work that goes on all year round right across Northern Ireland to enhance the appearance of our villages, towns and cities.

“Eye-catching floral and plant displays are enjoyed by both local people and tourists, boosting civic pride and improving economic and social prosperity.

“This is an exciting time for Northern Ireland with many high profile events planned and it will be a great opportunity to showcase all we have to offer visitors.

“Ulster in Bloom participants will also play an important role in making the Northern Ireland visitor experience a more enjoyable and memorable one.

“Congratulations to all the winners and we hope their efforts inspire others to get involved in gardening and participate in the 2012 Ulster in Bloom Competition.”

Addressing the Ulster in Bloom winners, Cllr Jenny Palmer, Northern Ireland Local Government Association, said:

“I am delighted to represent the Northern Ireland Local Government Association and to convey our Members’ appreciation and congratulations to the many people, councils, local ‘In – Bloom’ committees and sponsors who have participated and contributed to the 2011 Translink Ulster in Bloom competition.

“The competition gives us the drive and the opportunity to support our citizens in making our cities, towns and villages cleaner, tidier, and more enjoyable places in which to live.

“The competition stirs our enthusiasm which can and has transformed the places in which we live, work and play; instilling a sense of pride and inspiring us to entice others to visit.

“To the winners we say thank you for leading by example and congratulations on your achievements. The Local Government Association Northern Ireland encourages your ongoing commitment.”
