The toddler was in the living room of the house when the incident occurred, shortly before 11.30pm.

While the window was being repaired by workmen, shortly before 1am on Thursday, a petrol bomb was thrown at the house and ignited close to the door.

The flames were extinguished and no one was hurt, according to police who have also stated that the occupants of a dark-coloured car are thought to have been involved in the incident in which the window was broken.

Appealing for information, Detective Inspector Carmichael said: “These were despicable and totally reckless acts. Those who carried them out showed a total disregard for the safety of anyone in the house, or those working to repair the damage.”
