Toilet humour delivers serious beach message

A professional sculptor set the standard with his ‘toilet’ image at Newcastle Beach recently.

Tony Hawkins from Portstewart was flushed with success as his toilet sculpture which was fun to look at but also contained a very serious message.

Jane Jackson, NI Water’s Education Manager, explained: “While having a great day out, we took the opportunity to highlight the importance of keeping our beaches tidy. World Oceans Day is on June 8, so it is the perfect time to raise awareness of our ‘Bag it, don’t flush it’ campaign.

“This is basically educating everyone on what can and cannot be put down the toilet. Items such as nappies, wipes, sanitary items, razors and cotton buds are commonly found washed up on the shore.”
