'˜Too much drink and not enough sense'

Colleen McNally (54), Churchill Gardens, Portadown, admitted assaulting an officer and attempting to assault a constable when she appeared last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

She was fined £150 on each of the two charges and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that on March 14 this year, at approximately 1.30am, police were called to a domestic incident at Woodside Gardens in Portadown.

Arising from that incident, McNally, who was intoxicated, was arrested.

She became abusive and aggressive and lifted her right leg in an attempt to kick an officer.

While in the police vehicle, she had to be restrained and the car was stopped so handcuffs could be applied.

She said she hoped the police vehicle would crash so that two police officers would die, the court was told.

A solicitor representing McNally said she would apologise for her behaviour and knew that was an awful statement she made but she would not wish for that to happen. It was the alcohol speaking, he said.

He added that she had gone to her ex-partner’s house and there had been an altercation.

District Judge Peter King said it was a case of too much drink and not enough sense.
