Michael Joseph Mitchell (55), Levin Road, Lurgan, was banned from driving for two months last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for not having insurance on June 19 this year.

He was also fined £250 for the offence.

Fines of £75 were imposed for not having a licence and taking a vehicle without the consent of the owner.

The court heard that a police mobile patrol saw a car driving in William Street, Lurgan, and checks revealed that only a female was insured to drive it.

They stopped the car in Church Place and the defendant admitted he had no insurance or licence and that he had taken the car without the consent of the owner.

A solicitor representing the defendant said it was his wife’s vehicle and she was working.

He explained that their son was to pick her up from work but at short notice he was unable to do this so the defendant simply took a chance.
