Took car to get it washed

When he had agreed the sale of a car a Lurgan man took it to get it washed but was caught driving without insurance.

Jonathan Harbinson (26), whose address was given as Silverwood Court, Lurgan, was fined £250 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for not having insurance on January 11 this year.

He was also given six points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard police saw the defendant at around 1.30pm at the Annesborough Road in Lurgan.

When they spoke to him he admitted he did not have insurance. He said he had only taken the car out to get it washed.

Mr Paddy Moriarty, representing the defendant, said his client did have insurance for another vehicle.

He explained Harbinson had been doing work on this vehicle and had agreed its sale.

Mr Moriarty added the defendant took the car to get it washed less than half a mile from him home.
