She was Gemmy Curry, who had an address at Brookfield Meadows, Banbridge, and another in Carrickfergus on her two summonses.

She admitted stealing clothes valued at £55 and £88 from Tescos, the Outlet, on July 9 and 11 last year, and the theft of children’s coats, valued at £28, from Tescos, Castlewellan Road, Banbridge on July 28.

Fines of £75 were imposed on each of the three offences and she was ordered to pay a total of £171 compensation.

The court heard that on July 9 and July 11 she went into Tescos in the Outlet with a buggy with a child inside.

She was seen on CCTV putting items under a coat on top of the buggy and leave without paying.

Curry subsequently returned to the store and at customer service sought to exchange the goods and was given a credit note.

On July 28 the defendant and a male entered Tescos on the Castlewellan Road.

Again she was pushing her child in a buggy and placed items under a children’s coat before leaving the premises.

The case was adjourned from a previous court so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.

A solicitor representing Curry said the offences happened over a short period of time and there was nothing pending in the pipeline.

Deputy District Judge Rosalie Prytherch told the defendant what she had engaged in was ‘extremely foolish’ and that she was jeopardising her child.
