Took mother’s car and was involved in minor accident

After taking her mother’s car without her permission a 19-year-old woman was involved in a minor traffic accident.

Ellen Turtle, Tullydagan Road, Lurgan, admitted a series of motoring offences when she appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

She was fined £250, with a £15 offender’s levy, and banned for three months for driving without insurance on February 20 this year.

She was also fined £100 and given a concurrent three month driving ban for taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Miss Turtle was also fined £75 for not having a vehicle test certificate, £40 for not displaying ‘L’ plates and £50 for driving unsupervised.

The court heard that at 5.40pm a road traffic collision occurred in the car park at William Street and Charles Street in Lurgan.

The defendant was the sole occupant of the car. She had collided with the side of another vehicle and there was only minor damage.

She admitted responsibility and that she was only a provisional licence holder. She expressed regret for her actions.

A solicitor representing Turtle said this was her mother’s vehicle and she did not have permission to use it. She added that the impact was minor but after the accident the car had been written off.
