Toome firm provide concrete for £200m redevelopment at Lord's Cricket Ground

The project involved the design, manufacture, delivery and installation of precast concrete terracing, step blocks, vomitary walls and staircases for the new Warner Stand.

Work began to demolish the original Warner Stand almost a year ago but the discovery of asbestos deep within the stand’s structure led to a delay in the construction programme as it was safely removed.

Creagh Concrete spent around three months on the project supplying 448 pieces in total. A total of 46 loads - around 100 tonnes - came from the Toome factory.

Former Mayor of London Boris Johnson approved plans for phase two of the Masterplan for Lord’s and Westminster Council gave outline planning permission for the project.

Johnson, who is a cricket fan and has attended matches at Lord’s in the past, said: “From WG Grace and Don Bradman through to Sir Ian Botham, Sachin Tendulkar, Shane Warne and our own Alastair Cook, the world’s best cricketers have graced this most historic and picturesque of cricket grounds.

“The history of Lord’s as the home of cricket must be retained and safeguarded and critical to that is ensuring it remains competitive in terms of staging international matches.

“The new stands will combine the very best design and architecture with simply stunning views of wickets tumbling and the sound of bat on ball in our capital.”

Completing the work, Creagh Concrete thanked everyone involved in the project and main contractor BAM for “a job well done.”
