The meeting was part of an on-going process of highlighting the companies’ commitment to the local economy, and to lobby for assistance in developing a new apprenticeship scheme. The company, which employs nearly 300 people at its Toomebridge plant and 120 at the MDF facility in Antrim , with several hundred more at plants in England, manufactures trailers for household names such as Eddie Stobart, Tesco and DHL.

“We were delighted to host a presentation to our local MLAs and MP, as part of a continuing process of commitment to the local economy. We highlighted to them how we have been able to remain a strong, competitive business throughout the recession through our partnership approach with our staff, and through keeping our operating costs low.

“We explored how we might develop an apprenticeship scheme with the local colleges and we are grateful for the help and advice they offered. We look forward to deepening our relationship with locally elected representatives, and are grateful to them for the support they offered us today.”

Established in Toomebridge, Northern Ireland in 1978, SDC has grown into one of the leading trailer manufacturers in Europe. SDC now manufacture the widest selection of trailers available, designed to meet the needs of our customers.

From its foundation in 1978 the business expanded with the acquisition of Neville Charrold in Nottinghamshire in 1994 and the acquisition by Retlan Manufacturing in 1998. With continued investment the company has three modern and efficient manufacturing facilities coping with the capacity and demands from today’s transport industry.
