The Great British Care Home Awards are the national finals of the nine regional Great British Care Awards in Autumn 2010 when Debi won the award for Care Home Registered Manager for London and then went on to represent the capital at the finals.

The purpose of the awards is to celebrate excellence across the care sector and to pay tribute to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.

The awards are all inclusive and bring together the statutory, independent and voluntary sectors as well as unpaid carers and have national support, including the Department of Health.

Debi had to be interviewed by a panel of judges and when they announced her name as the winner said that the reason she won is because she is a “delightful, caring and passionate manager” who “combined an effective clinical role with management to support her staff”, she “leads by example” and is a “good communicator.”

She completed her nurse training at Belfast City Hospital and has gone on to gain a BSC in Health Studies (Palliative Care) from Queens University, Belfast.

Debi is the daughter of Stephen and Kathleen Nicholl from Hillside Road, Armoy.

Stephen told the Times: “It is a big award and as a family we are very proud.”
