Top daffodil growers Spring to victory

ALL the top daffodil growers in the Province were represented at the Hillsborough Horticultural Society’s Spring Show, which was held in Hillsborough Village Centre.

The main prize winners were: 1. The Orr Perpetual Challenge Cup awarded to the exhibitor gaining most points in the Open Daffodil Classes: Mr Nial Watson, Killinchy. 2. Special prize for the best exhibitor entering 12 varieties of daffodil, one bloom of each from three divisions of the current daffodil classification: Mr Richard McCaw, Ballygowan Road, Hillsborough. 3. The McGready Cup awarded to the exhibitor gaining most points in the Amateur Intermediate Daffodil Classes: Mr David Pinkerton, Newtownards. 4. The Gray Challenge Cup awarded to the exhibitor gaining most points in the Novice Daffodil Classes: Mrs Eleanor Alexander, Downshire Park, Hillsborough. 5. The Mary E Johnston Memorial Perpetual Cup awarded for the best exhibit in the Floral Art Classes: Mrs Evelyn Smyth, Carnreagh, Hillsborough. 6. The Martin Cup awarded for the best children’s exhibit: Miss Olivia Palmer, Hillsborough.
