Top dentistry prize for local student Laura

A Portglenone student of Queen’s University has been awarded the most prestigious student research prize in dentistry.

Laura Graham, a fourth year dental student at Queen’s, Belfast, won first prize in the Junior Researcher section of the Hatton Awards, held at the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.

The judges awarded Laura, who gave a presentation on ‘The role of p63 and BRCA1 in Oropharyngeal Cancer’, the top prize for her subject knowledge and the quality of her research.

Laura’s presentation was based on research she carried out within the Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology (CCRCB) at Queen’s, under the supervision of Dr Jacqueline James, Dr Simon McDade and Dr Stephen McQuaid.
