Top hat time in Ballymoney car show

A BALLYMENA owned 1927 Austin Top Hat is set to be the star attraction at Riada Pre-50 Car Club’s 10th Anniversary Ford and Mini Display in the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre, Ballymoney.

In total over 70 cars have been entered by the Ballymoney based club for the event on March 31, including a very special Model ‘T’ Ford.

The ‘Top Hat’ is owned by Ballymena Funeral Director Alan Francey, whose Grandfather, William Francey bought the car new.

It was then handed down to Alan’s Father, Alexander, who learned to drive in it.

It was later sold and disappeared for quite a number of years, until local vintage enthusiast, the late Norman Shaw spotted a picture of it in a magazine and informed Alan of it’s whereabouts in England.

Following a protracted series of negotiations, Alan eventually bought the original ‘Mini’ and has had it completely restored to an outstanding degree.

Keeping it company will be a Seven Ruby and a soft top model, plus a huge variety of modern Minis.

On the Ford side, in addition to the Model ‘T’ will be a wide ranging selection of models, old and new, including a number of modern rally-prepared Escorts.

The display opens at 10.00am and will continue until 5.00pm.

Admission is £3 and everyone will be most welcome.
