Top Investor in Careers award for St Paul’s JHS/St Ronan’s

St Paul’s Junior High School in Lurgan has successfully achieved the prestigious ‘Investor in Careers Award’ (IiC) which will be carried into the newly amalgamated St Ronan’s College.

The school is the first establishment in Northern Ireland to achieve this important kitemark and places it alongside other educational establishments in leading the way, raising quality in careers education, information and guidance (CEIAG) across the UK.

IiC was developed by CSW Group and has become the country’s most widely adopted quality award of its kind. It is one of only 12 such awards recognised by Ofsted as demonstrating that schools are delivering the highest quality CEIAG.

Presenting St Ronan’s College with a plaque in recognition of this achievement, Debra Scarratt, National Manager for IiC, said, “I’m thrilled that St Ronan’s College is at the forefront of best practice in Northern Ireland and the Award has justly recognised the professionalism and commitment shown by all.”

Principal, Mrs Michele Corkey, said, “We are committed to ensuring that all our students receive effective, independent and impartial careers advice; and Investor in Careers has helped us achieve this. We have developed a careers programme that starts in Year 8 and continues throughout school helping students to make informed decisions about GCSE options, post-16 and post-18 choices. Above all we want students to have a career which inspires them. We aim to provide work related learning in lessons, and through extra-curricular activities which develop employability skills. We ask for students to consider why they are studying for a particular qualification and what they want to do with their excellent exam results. Students attend careers events, complete work experience placements and see an independent careers adviser just to name a few of the activities taking place in St. Ronan’s College. We are thrilled to have achieved this Award.”

St Ronan’s College will continue to benchmark itself against other leading schools in the UK, and to improve and develop its careers guidance programme using IiC as a catalyst for change.

Across the UK over 300 education institutions have achieved or are working towards IiC. The Award is not given lightly and is a real indication of quality.
