Top marks for St Patrick’s College

St Patrick’s College was placed in the top spot, out of the 148 non-grammar schools analysed, with 76% of Year 12 pupils obtaining five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C, two of which in the subjects of Mathematics and English.

In the performance table, analysing five or more GSCEs (grades A* to C) in any subject in non-grammar school performance, St Patrick’s College had 88% of Year 12s achieving five or more GCSEs – well above the NI non-grammar average of 60%.

The statistics also revealed that 99% of pupils, who studied A-levels at the school in 2010/11, achieved two or more A-levels.

“We place a great emphasis on the core subjects of English and Maths as we firmly believe every pupil needs a solid understanding of these areas. To be placed as the top non-grammar school in NI for GCSE results, that include Maths and English, is a great testament to the pupils and to the committed and excellent team of staff that we have at our school.”

St Patrick’s College is a bilateral school, situated in Maghera, County Derry, with 1338 pupils. The school was awarded specialist status for Science in 2007 and holds an Investors in People Award, Laureate status for computer technology use and the top EFQM award which was fast tracked to success in a record breaking six months.

In 2012, the school’s Gaelic football team was a finalist in the MacRory Cup. This year the school’s teams have collectively won a total of seven sporting titles throughout the 2011 / 2012 school year.
