Top post at UTV for former Bushmills man

Former Bushmills man, Darwin Templeton, has joined UTV as Executive Editor of news.

In his new role Darwin will have overall responsibility for UTV’s news output across television, radio and online in Northern Ireland.

Darwin has 21 years’ experience in journalism having previously worked as editor of The News Letter, editor of UTV’s current affairs programme Insight, and as a senior reporter with both UTV and the Belfast Telegraph.

Darwin said: “I am delighted to once again be working within UTV’s very strong news team. As well as being the most watched news by far in Northern Ireland, UTV Live’s ratings are almost double that of the ITV Network regional news average.

“My challenge is to maintain and build upon that success in the coming months on all platforms. So far this year, UTV Live has produced some very strong programmes backed up with excellent viewing figures in excess of 200,000 viewers and we hope to continue this trend throughout the year.”

Michael Wilson, Managing Director, UTV said: “Darwin has a proven track record in programme-making, journalism and editorial leadership and as UTV continues to invest in new channels, I am delighted he has returned to the UTV newsroom and will be responsible for both ensuring the high quality of our news output and for driving our news content forward on all platforms.”

Darwin is a graduate of Queen’s University and attended Dalriada School in Ballymoney.
